About the City Council
The Chowchilla City Council is comprised of five at-large elected officials who make policy decisions for the City of Chowchilla. The City Council sets priorities, approves the budget and addresses citywide issues affecting the Chowchilla community. They are elected at-large to overlapping four-year terms. The City Council members annually select the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem.
The City Council appoints the City Administrator, Police Chief, City Attorney and City Commissions and Boards. The Mayor signs official documents, chairs the Council meetings and acts as the official head of the City at public and ceremonial occasions. The City Council works for the overall improvement of life for Chowchilla citizens that include:
- Efficient and cost effective public services
- The development of economic programs to increase employment by enhancing the visual aesthetics of the community
- Providing effective policy direction allowing for efficient administration of municipal operations
- Implementing programs that provide a positive plan for the future development of the city
- Working cooperatively with intergovernmental agencies, the Chamber of Commerce, businesses, and industry to assist in economic growth
Regular City Council meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Special or emergency meetings can be called as needed. The regular meetings are conducted beginning at 7:00 PM in the City Council Chambers in City Hall, 130 S. Second Street, Chowchilla, CA 93610.
As required by state law a regular meeting agenda must be posted no less than 72 hours before the start of the meeting, a special meeting agenda must be posted no less than 24 hours before the start of the meeting, and an emergency meeting agenda must be posted no later than 1 hour before the start of the meeting. Minutes are available following approval.
Council Meeting Details
The City Council convenes their meetings jointly with the Redevelopment Successor Agency on a regular basis. Those items that are to be acted upon by the Redevelopment Successor Agency will be denoted with an asterisk on the meeting agenda. Joint City Council/Redevelopment Successor Agency meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Special meetings can be called with a 24 hour notice and emergency meetings call be called within 1 hour notice. Notices of meetings and meeting locations are posted at City Hall as required by the Brown Act.
City Council meetings consist of several items of business. At the beginning of each meeting time is devoted to Public Address to allow members of the public to address the City Council on items of interest that are not on the agenda and that are within City Council's jurisdiction. Each speaker is asked to limit their comments to three minutes. The City Council may or may not respond to comments and they are prohibited by law from taking action on items brought up during the Public Address as they are not noticed on the agenda.
If a member of the public wishes to bring an item of interest to the City Council's attention, they may do so under Public Address as noted above, or they can contact the City Clerk's Office to schedule an item for consideration to be placed on a future City Council agenda. In order to have items placed on an agenda, all information (including exhibits, handouts, etc.) must be received in the City Clerk's office 20 days prior to the scheduled meeting.

Statements of Economic Interest
The City Council Members are elected officers identified in Government Code Section 87200 and file statements of economic interests with the City Clerk's office. Copies of the statements of economic interests files by the elected officers may be obtained by visiting the offices of the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) at 428 J Street, Suite 620, Sacramento, California 95814, or the Chowchilla City Clerk's office at 130 S.
