Jim Kopshever was born in Chicago Illinois. In 1959, his father’s career took the family to Farmington Connecticut, a small town outside of Hartford. Jim spent the next ten years in Farmington enjoying all that New England had to offer a young child. In 1968, Jim’s father received another promotion that moved the family of eight to the San Francisco Bay, where they settled in Novato, California.

That's where he met his future bride Jeanne and the two were married in 1976. Jim and Jeanne moved their family to Chowchilla in 1987 to enter the automotive business. After seventeen years, they sold the business in 2004. Jim continues working in the automotive business as well as consulting in real estate and business development.

Jim and Jeanne have a daughter and son that grew up in Chowchilla. Michelle, now married and living in Sacramento, is a Paralegal working for a law firm specializing in government lobbying. Tony is a Petty Officer in the United States Coast Guard stationed at Coast Guard Station Golden Gate in Sausalito. Jim and Jeanne were blessed with their first grandchild, Adam, who was born to daughter Michelle and her husband Todd in April 2008.

During his years in Chowchilla, Jim has been very active in Rotary and was a member of the Chowchilla Planning Commission for thirteen years. Jim’s interests include spending time with his large family, helping others develop their businesses, serving his community, and yachting.

Jim was appointed to the Chowchilla City Council in October 2007 and elected to the City Council in November 2008. He served as Mayor from December 2009 to December 2010 and is currently serving as Mayor Pro Tem from December 2011 to December 2012. His council term expires in December 2012.
