Misc. Information

Berenda Reservoir is an equalization reservoir that provides water for local farmers. It is located approximately four miles east of Chowchilla on Avenue 26. The reservoir is a seasonal water feature situated on six acres offering opportunities for summer recreational fun. The site includes a Rotary Club BBQ shelter, Scout Island, a boat launch, beach swimming areas, and restrooms.

Summertime at Berenda Reservoir

Berenda Reservoir is only open during summer months. The opening and closing dates for the reservoir are determined by the availability of water and the cooperation of volunteers, therefore dates are always subject to change. Generally the season lasts from mid-June through mid-August. The waterway is controlled by the Chowchilla Water District and Army Corp. of Engineers.

  Current Fees

Fees have been charged to use Berenda Reservoir in the past, but due to lack of staff and vandalism to drop boxes, the gates are currently not manned. Please contact us at (559) 665-8615, extension 110 if you would like to donate towards the operation and maintenance of the reservoir to help keep it open for this season and future seasons.
