In order to provide a proactive response to narcotic crime problems within the City and surrounding areas, the Chowchilla Police Department initiated a K-9 Program. Currently, the department has two K-9 handler teams. K-9 Kilo and K-9 Warco were purchased from a local vendor. The teams participate in ongoing training exercises at various locations. Additionally, the K-9 teams must pass an annual recertification test.

Additional benefits of maintaining K-9 handler teams within our department include: increased officer safety options when dealing with dangerous people or situations, improving the department's ability to solve crimes that recently occurred, and increasing the department's public visibility through public and school based K-9 demonstrations.

Our department's K-9 Program receives strong support from local service organizations and from the citizens of Chowchilla. An annual benefit dinner sponsored by one of our local service clubs keeps this program a viable component of the Chowchilla Police Department.
